D: "Every good road trip consists of several elements: For us, avoiding the Interstate Highways when possible is a must." B: "A must." D: "Backroad wandering leads to a wealth of unexpected surprises." B: "Like snakes in trees." D: "To our delight, we found that our beloved State Route A1A actually includes a ferry ride across the St. Johns River just south of the Georgia state line."
The working watermen from these shrimpers in darien, ga laughed at us, but we got the photos!
D: "Since we were traveling the back roads through the Savannah-Charleston Low Country, we had the opportunity to fulfill another key element of our trips: Whenever possible, Visit an Island and Visit a Beach. One island I really loved was Jekyll Island - what a delightful surprise!" B: "It's one of those places that I did an art show at, and D wanted to take a look. Cost us $6 but worth it just to see the Jekyll Hotel and all the old, completely restored Victorian homes of the American elite." D: "Another key element is to Visit a Beach, which we did on Edisto Island." B: " I expected a more picturesque beach, with high dunes and clean, brilliant water. Not so. Gray sand, black oyster shells, and a very short beach area. More like a shoreline."
